>Atlanta restaurants and more

>Today was a great day! I finally got to run on the treadmill! YEA! I had to do it at home, because Cooper was still a little too sick to take out today, but it still it was wonderful.  It was so nice to be a little bit back to normal!  More on that later this week. For now I promised a friend, who is coming to Atlanta for his honeymoon, a few recommendations on food and attractions. Since I can’t get facebook email to cooperate(ERR!)  and thought you all might like to know what restaurants I think are good here in Atlanta, I decided to post it here. Plus, you might be able to add some more for him since I don’t get out very often now that I have two kids which seem to be constantly sick.

Atlanta Restaurants

Fat Matt’s-—by far the best ribs I’ve ever had. Although a little pricey but in my opinion definitely worth it.

Ippolito’s —one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Atlanta, but I may be a bit biased b/c I had my wedding reception here

Marietta Diner—best cheesecake ever! We found this place on food network’s Diner’s Drive-In’s and Dive’s, and the portions are huge, so don’t be afraid to share with one or two people. they also have great tazeeki sauce

Loca Luna--good tapas and great music, pretty good sized portions for tapas as well, really hard to find b/c they have no sign, its the one with lights all over it

Publix—cheap easy to get subs….if you are looking for a day close to home 😉 this is also a grocery store, they have great baked goods, bread, cake (this was actually where we got our wedding cake)

Antico Pizza–best pizza in Atlanta, it’s a New York style but go early b/c once they are out of dough, they close $20 a pizza normally

Breadwinner breads—really good sweet breads, sandwiches and soups are ok

Hal’s—great steak and fish, very pricey but it is their honeymoon

Zaxby’s—fast food chicken fingers, good southern chicken fingers, cheap easy lunch (my Dad has to go here every time he comes to Atlanta)
There are a few more places I like up here in Cumming but it’s kind of a drive for my friend.

Dekalb Farmer’s Market—awesome salad bar, plus it’s a really big farmer’s market where you can see lots of different foods and people

Highland Bakery—has really good baked goods, and breakfast foods

SunDial Restuarant-–food is good but not spectacular but a great view and awesome experience, I suggest going for lunch because it is cheaper and less busy, close to olympic park

There are a few more places I like up here in Cumming but it’s kind of a drive for my friend. So if you would like to know more about that just ask.

Things to do in Atlanta:

Atlanta Aquarium—is awesome and beautiful but really expensive
Olympic Park—is an interesting park especially in the warm months when the fountain is working
CNN center–right by Aquarium, olympic park, and coca cola museum, so if you are into news its kinda neat to see where it all comes from….they also have a huge food court here
Coca Cola Museum—interesting, you get to try lots of different kinds of soda, still a little expensive to me
Atlanta Botanical Gardens—I haven’t been here yet but I hear it is beautiful, a bit of a drive though
Kennesaw Memorial Park—nice park in Marietta, if you like hiking there are some hiking trails, and free, good place to go after or before Marietta Diner
Stone Mountain Park—pretty neat place, great hike but a steep one, there are other things to do here as well but all cost money
Lake Lanier—nice to go and see and potentially swim in warm months ( I also live really close to here ;))
Helen—really long, but beautiful drive, a cute little German town,
Sweetwater Creek State park—cute little park close to where my friend is staying
Pickett’s Mill Battlefield–pretty neat battlefield from the civil war lots of trails to walk
Fernbank Museum—one of favorite places in Atlanta, spectacular dinosaur fossils and more plus its close to an older section of Atlanta, lots of old homes/plantations
Virginia Highland—lots of interesting places to eat and shop

I hope this helps! And I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe some new ideas about where to go in Atlanta.  Coming up tomorrow menu planning, and white chocolate macadamia nut granola bars (yummy)

What restaurants do you like in your area? Does anyone know of some organic restaurants around Cumming, GA?

Hi, I'm a stay-at-home mom trying to find a healthier lifestyle that works for my family and me. It's not easy with two energetic toddlers, a hyper dog, a house that needs a lot of work, 12 cars (that's right I said 12) that all need work, a large home garden, lots of work/family travel and an Italian husband who likes to help everyone but himself, but we make it work. We need to make it work!
